The Milton Bradley Company, founded in 1860, is the oldest game manufacturer in the United States. Since its beginning, Milton Bradley has marketed such timeless games as The Game of Life (originally titled, “The Checkered Game of Life”), Candy Land, Chutes and Ladders, Twister, and Yahtzee. In 1984, Milton Bradley became a division of Hasbro, Inc., the world’s largest toy company.

In the 1960’s, Johnny Carson played the game, “Twister”, on “The Tonight Show” with his guest Eva Gabor.

Milton Bradley was born in Vienna, Maine, in 1836. He originally persued a career in printing and lithography. As the story goes, Bradley became intrigued when he sat down to play a board game with his friend, George Tapley. Purportedly of European origin with a numbered spinner, the game inspired Bradley to invent a game of his own. Thus, “The Checkered Game of Life” was born.

The company specializes in games, puzzles, blocks, optical toys and kindergarten aids.
